This weekend is going to be hot! As much as I live for crisp fall days, this year I am really trying to embrace summer and do more outside. I have always been drawn to the relaxed feeling that comes with summertime and I like to translate that into everything from how I dress to how I set a table. I approach summertime entertaining as the season of causal al fresco dining with pretty accented florals to lighten the whole scene. Whether it is dinner or lunch I find the more casual the setting the better.
I like to swap out individual place settings for a pile of flatware and a stack of plates and bowls. This setup lends itself to buffet style dining, so I will place some items on the dining table like salad, a small cheese board and drinks and leave the main dishes on a nearby table for guests to pick at. You can always clear the table as it gets too cluttered, but I love the different textures of wood bowls, ceramic platters and bright colors of the fruits and flowers.
I like to use an exposed wood table, but I also love the look of relaxed linens and never think a full drop tablecloth looks formal when paired with the right accents. I threw a turkish throw over the tablecloth to give an added layer of texture and chose natural linen napkins placed on a large ceramic platter. I wanted the florals to stand out against all of the neutrals so I selected full roses and luscious peonies in different pinks and white.
