Local Spotlight: Martha Oakes

I am so excited to share the work of my next local spotlight, Martha Oakes Designs. By this point you all know how much I love pretty textiles and I am always so impressed with the amount of local talent right here in Marin. Martha Oakes is an artist and textile designer who up until very recently had her studio space in Sausalito. She has moved to a new studio in Sonoma, which is still very close by. Martha is one of those artists whose work I connected with instantly. She pulls inspiration from the beautiful Marin landscapes and colors of the water to create truly original pieces.

Martha has created a diverse brand that offers stunning textiles in addition to unique art prints and original paintings. Her art has added an extra layer to our living room. Even though this space has been “done” for a while, I always felt like something was missing. We have a lot of photographs but no original art, so incorporating one of her pieces offset all of the photography and added something organic that the room was lacking.

Just like every company I feature on local spotlight, I want all of their pieces, but I have had my eye on a few specific things on Martha’s site. She crafts gorgeous napkins which I know would be perfect for my next dinner party or al fresco lunch! The colors in these are perfection and these would work great for any table all year long. Her pillows are also filled with color and range from soft patterns to bold and all have her signature artistic touch. I encourage you all to go take a look at her website and shop around. I love shopping from local artists that take their craft very seriously and offer something that you won’t find at a run of the mill store.
