I took a much needed break from blogging for the past few weeks to recharge and get excited about creating new content. I really love having this outlet and sometimes need to step away for a bit in order to bring new work to the table and not just post for the sake of posting. I want you all to find inspiration in these posts and be excited to try something new.
With Cinco de Mayo coming up and summer just around the corner I wanted to create a new cocktail that looked pretty and tasted light and refreshing. I was recently introduced to Hanson Vodka, a local family run company based out of Sonoma. Their organic vodkas are delicious on their own or mixed into a drink and I love that they offer a variety of different flavors. For this drink I went with the habanero flavor which adds the perfect spice. Their website is extremely detailed and gives information on how each flavor is made.
Grapefruit Habanero Cocktail
2 ounces habanero vodka
2 ounces grapefruit juice
1 ounce triple sec
1 ounce simple syrup (see directions below to make your own)
small squeeze of fresh orange
Directions: To make the simple syrup combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar in a small saucepan over high heat, stir until the sugar dissolves. Bring mixture to a boil and then turn the heat down and simmer for approx. 10 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool for 30 mins.
Pour all liquid ingredients in a cocktail shaker and fill remaining space with ice. Shake until everything is well mixed and cold. Pour into a glass and top with more ice if needed. Garnish with flowers or a grapefruit wedge.
