Home Decor Q&A

I would say more often than not I get asked the same round of questions on the blog or through Instagram. They are almost always home decor related and I thought it would be nice to do a simple Q& A post so you have it to reference in the future. Feel free to ask more in the comments section if there was something I left out that you were interested in!

The number one most asked question I get asked is.. Where is the rug in your living room from?

Unfortunately this is a vintage Turkish rug I got at the Alameda Flea Market. You can read all about how I found my rug here. Vintage Turkish rugs are extremely popular right now, making them easier to find in a lot of different places, not just flea markets. Although you can’t purchase my exact rug, Etsy and Kilim.com have great options in similar styles.

What color are your walls and trim throughout your apartment?

Our walls are painted Droplets by Dunn Edwards and the trim is White by Dunne Edwards.

Where are you curtains and curtain rods from?

All of the drapery and drapery rods are the same throughout the apartment except for the bay window curtain rod in the living room. I went super inexpensive on these as our apartment collects so much dust and white drapery just gets destroyed. We have these drapery panels in white and these simple curtain rods. I chose this really inexpensive bay window curtain rod and although its pretty cheap it does the job.

What type of plant do you have in your living room?

We currently have a bird of paradise plant in our living room. This particular plant doesn’t flower so it will stay the way it looks. We have found it’s very easy to maintain, especially considering we had a fiddle leaf fig tree there before which requires more maintenance.

Where are your dishes from?

I am always surprised at how often I get this question, but I suppose because we have open shelves in the kitchen the dishes are easy to see. We have this collection from Target in addition to my favorite large bowls from Ikea that we use for pasta or rice dishes.

Where is the new TV console in your living room from?

This may come as a huge shock to you, but its from… Target! After months and months of searching for a closed storage console I found this pretty option and jumped on it before it was gone. It is so inexpensive and I couldn’t justify spending $1,400 on the one I originally wanted because I know we won’t live here forever. I was really surprised at the quality as it feels much nicer than a Target piece. I also love this and this from World Market.

Where do you shop for inexpensive home decor?

Well I think it is pretty obvious that I am a little nuts for Target. I have found that Target has a whole world on their website of things I have never seen in stores. I like to look at their website often because they constantly rotate merchandise and release new collections frequently. I also like to look at the Anthropologie sale section and recently became a huge fan of H&M Home and Zara home. I love my H&M linen bedding, and large array of decorative accessories. Etsy also has some incredible finds and of course a good flea market for found objects that add charm to any room!

Where is your coffee table from?

Our coffee table is from Living Spaces, which they unfortunately no longer have. A few of my other favorite marble and brass coffee tables include this, this and this.

    Hi Shaina,
They are surprisingly both from Home Goods! Target has some very similar options too.
