A lot of trends come and go, but one of my favorite things about working in the design world is seeing historic trends come into play in new forms. Lately I have been seeing burl wood in a bevy of accessories and furniture at mid range pricing. Burl is actually found in a fungus or abnormal growth in certain trees and became very popular in furniture making during the Victorian area. It was often used for extremely intricate pieces because of the detail the wood naturally provides. The subtle swirling pattern in the wood creates such a beautiful pattern on everything from nightstands to mirrors. I recently discovered these frames at Williams Sonoma Home and was extremely happy with the quality. Here is a round up of some of my other favorite burl wood pieces on the market right now.
