My heart is heavy.
This past week I put my phone down more than I have in years and my eyes really have been opened. I made a direct intention to read and educate myself and already, I have seen so many things I can be doing in my life differently. I have signed petitions, made donations and watched countless videos that break down the injustices that are happening all over the country on a daily basis. I know that is not enough, so I will continue to do more moving forward. This is intended to be a space of comfort and joy, but ignoring these devastating issues contributes to the ongoing problem. Over the past week I have seen so many helpful resources, but if you are still looking for specifics let me know and I will be happy to share things that I have found helpful. As I go back to posting my regular design content this week, I feel it is important for all that has been brought to light to remain current instead of falling to the wayside. I have been exposed to a lot of Black makers and designers and I’m excited to discover more and share their work on here. I will also be doing a lot more research when taking on brand partnerships and looking into the practices of the companies I source products from.
Daniel and I have decided to cancel our Boone Hall Plantation wedding in Charleston. We recognize that it was a poor choice in venue. I looked at the location as a wedding venue instead of what the space really was in our history and wish I would have seen the insensitivities of my decision earlier. As we move forward, we have decided to keep our small, local ceremony private. Thank you for your understanding.
I know many of you have been following for years and I so appreciate your constant support. It is my goal to always be transparent, admit my mistakes and educate myself to continue evolving.
Here is to a brighter week ahead!
