Collecting inspiration is truly one of my favorite pastimes. I love diving into a good magazine (and still tear out pages), making mood boards and spending far too much time on Pinterest and Tumblr. I did a post on gathering inspiration last year and I post a Monday Inspiration series almost every week, but I wanted to show another board on how I take all those inspirational images and extract them into a collection of pieces. I always refer to this as conceptual inspiration, as opposed to literal where you want to recreate the space or outfit piece by piece. Conceptual looks at colors, textures, shapes in a variety of pieces not just other interiors spaces. Such as taking a sleeve detail or the texture of a straw hat and translating that into a pillow cover or a basket. It’s so fun to play around with and the best part is you can’t mess anything up – it’s all how you interpret it which is what I love about finding inspiration and design, it is very personal.
