W I S S C A S S E T

As much as I loved exploring, I was eager to get back to our Bed & Breakfast early everyday to sit by the fireplace. We stayed in the small town of Wiscasset at the Marston House Inn. This place could not have been cuter, Paul and Sharon made us feel so at home with a cozy room in a detached carriage house. They brought us a delicious breakfast of homemade biscuits and jam, fruit and granola and piping hot coffee. Wisscasset is tiny, but so quiet and relaxing. The biggest draw is the world famous Red’s Eats where we tried our first lobster roll (despite my love of food seafood is not my thing, so this was an interesting experience to say the least.) I stuck to the homemade Round Top Blueberry Ice Cream!

P E M A Q U I D

We had to alter our plans a bit when coming into Maine from Boston (we flew into Boston, drove to Maine, then off to Vermont by way of New Hampshire and spent our last night in Boston) so we missed Portland and the Portland Head Lighthouse. I was desperate to find a real Maine lighthouse, so Paul recommended we drive out to Pemaquid Point. We got there early in the morning, which was nice because it was not crowded at all, making it even more peaceful.

When leaving Pemaquid we drove through New Harbor, ME. This is a quintessential coastal New England village filled with shingle style houses, long boat docks and charming details like pumpkins on every step.

C A M D E N

Camden is only a 45 minute drive from Wisscasset, but felt drastically different. The town definitely caters to tourists a bit more with its ample gift shops and Maine souvenirs. Despite the crowds we stayed for a while and had delicious blueberry pancakes at Marriner’s Restaurant. After brunch we walked around the harbor to look at the different boats and docks. I felt so at home and Maine and would love to go back in the summer when the weather is a bit warmer and I can just lay out on the water!
