Inexpensive Framing

Framing art can be quite costly, but I have found a few cheaper solutions that still look great! I change up the art in our apartment all the time, so I never want to spend a lot on custom framing. Recently I wanted an oversized mat style frame for above our sofa and I couldn’t find any in the right size I was looking for without spending close to $500 for two.

I decided to go to Michael’s because they often have specials on their oversized frames. I found these (buy one get one free) and for the cost I would have spent on the second frame I had two custom cut matts made right at their framing counter. Getting custom cut mats can make your artwork look a lot more tailored and expensive than it actually is. The art above looks like I spent a lot more than $90 and I was able to get exactly what I was looking for!

Other places I turn to for framing art are Framebridge and Artifact Uprising. Both sites have a lot of great frame styles and let you customize elements without getting as pricy as a high end framer. A lot of my smaller artwork and Instagram photos are done utilizing their services. They make it very easy to send in artwork to be framed or digitally upload and customize your settings.

      Hi Megan,

I wanted an oversized mat and had existing artwork I was working with so I had the opening cut to 8 x 10!
